BarroMetrics Views: CANI
CANI? Constant and Never Ending Improvement (’borrowed’ from Tony Robbins)
A friend of mine heard that I had subscribed to Dr Gary Dayton’s “Deep Practice” weekly sessions and asked why I bothered.
Dr Gary is a Wyckoff practitioner with a large touch of Market Profile ideas; for example he speaks of trend days and rotational markets. My friend knows that both Wyckoff and Market Profile form the core of the way I define the context of my trades and he knows that I have spent considerable time, effort and money to learn and apply the ideas.
My answer was that listening to an obviously accomplished practitioner was always beneficial. Sometimes even material we know that is said in a different way leads to creative insights.
As a lecturer/coach, I find my biggest hurdle are the three words: “I know that”. Once we feel we know something, it’s difficult to accept new information. In the Psychology of Intelligence Analysis, Heuer makes the point that as block to information, what we expect to see (or hear etc) is a much greater block than what we want to see (or hear etc).
So, if I hear of someone offering of what seems to be a great service I check it out. Sometimes I am disappointed because that on offer is more hype than substance; sometimes the material is great but does not suit me e.g. P&L Dot (Drummond Geometry). But sometimes I get more value than I bargained for. Dr Gary’s material falls in this latter category.
So far, the weekly sessions have produced two new creative ideas and since ‘creative ideas’ are my outcome, I already have my money’s worth. And as a bonus, I’ve picked up new angles on a couple Wyckoff’s ideas.
I believe that in most things in life, and especially for trading, we cannot sit still. Our competitors are continually honing their skills (e.g. High Frequency Trading). If we don’t CANI our edge, we’ll get left behind.
Usual Disclaimer: I do not receive any benefit for mentioning Dr Gary. I do so because I find that he is offering what I consider a value service.
